In June 2007 Suez Cement signed an agreement with UNICALCE, one of the world’s leading suppliers of lime, for the establishment of the joint venture company Suez Lime. Suez Lime manufactures hydrated lime according to the Egyptian standards ES 584/2003 and in compliance with the European specifications EN 459/1-2001 and EN 459/2-2001.
Lime
Lime is an ecological product known for over 4.000 years. The validity of lime applications is proved by the magnificent age-old works we can still admire, such as the Pyramids, the Great Wall in China, or the roads, bridges and aqueducts dating back to the Roman period. Today, as then, but with modern processing cycles, quicklime is obtained by burning limestone at high and controlled temperatures; the addition of established quantities of water to quicklime leads to the formation of fine hydrated lime.
Applications
Lime is well known for its diverse range of applications in many different industrial sectors. The lime is extensively used in construction applications like masonry, stucco and plaster system, steel manufacturing, mining and glass manufacturing and has numerous and growing applications in the agricultural and environmental sector, including use in air and water pollution control. Hydrated lime is suitable for use in agriculture and horticulture as well as a fluxing agent for steel and as an integral chemical in the production of paper, sugar, leather, etc. It is used as neutralizing agent for polluting flue gas and as a precipitating agent in purifying waste water.
An environment-friendly product
Tourah Lime is also used to correct excessive soil acidity and the harmful effects of certain fertilizers, such as sulphate of ammonia or ammonium phosphate. As environment-friendly product, lime is used for domestic and industrial waste water treatment as well as for cleaning acid flue gas from incinerators and thermoelectric power plants.
