History

Here is the journey of how Heidelberg Materials came to be one of the largest and most innovative grey cement producers in Egypt. 

1927 - The Egyptian Tourah Portland Cement Company was established as Egypt's first cement production company. It was the first to use the dry method of cement production in Egypt and it has the country's oldest licensed quarry. The company had also established several training centers to provide technical and administrative training courses to meet the needs of the cement sector.

1929 - Helwan Cement Company was established as the second cement production company to enter the Egyptian market. The company is located south of Cairo, and it has two dry production lines in operation.

1977 - Suez Cement Company was established. The company, through its factories in Suez and Kattameya, is one of the largest companies that specialize in producing gray cement, with a total investment of 1.7 billion Egyptian pounds, with its ability to produce the finest types of cement using bleaching and preheating methods. The company serves the Egyptian market, in addition to the markets of many Arab, African and European countries.

2001 - Italcementi, an Italian multinational company specializing in cement production, purchased 55% of Suez Cement Company.

2005 - Suez Cement Company acquired 99% of Helwan Cement Company, then was listed on the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange, in cooperation with other local and international partners.

2006 - Suez Cement Company acquires Ready Mix Beton and Dicom Ready Mix Concrete companies.

2016 - Heidelberg Materials acquired 45% of Italcementi, which allowed Suez Cement to join Heidelberg Materials as one of the leading companies in the production of building materials in the world.
