Suez Cement has participated to the EGX Sustainability Conference 2015 organized by the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) on October 25 at the Semiramis InterContinental Cairo Hotel
EGX sustainability conference is a chance for policy makers, capital market regulators, listed companies, investors, and all stakeholders to engage in a sustainability-related national dialogue that will help the Egyptian Capital market to contribute in Egypt sustainable development.

Amongst the speakers, including H.E. Ghada Waly, Minister of Social Solidarity, H.E. Ashraf Salman, Minister of Investment and Dr. Mohamed Omran, Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange, SCGC’s  CEO Mr. Bruno Carré presented “Sustainability at the foundation of Suez Cement’s strategic development” within the session “Enhancing the sustainability of key resources: land, water and energy”.

Mr. Carré speech was an occasion to present the results of the biodiversity plan (one of the first reports of its kind in Egypt) carried out in cooperation with Ain Shams University’s Zoology Department at the Helwan Limestone Quarry, the largest SCGC quarry. The program's aim was to analyze and monitor biodiversity levels at the quarry in comparison with surrounding areas. The partnership, renewed for another two years, gives the opportunity to better understand the ecosystems and environmental changes, as well as protecting and restoring the habitat and related living species, while taking into consideration the requirements of mineral and raw material extraction.

The presentation also focused on the alternative fuels projects and renewable energies as well as the sustainable social initiatives that Suez Cement implements in the community. Mr. Carré concluded  by saying that SCGC is a company that looks to the future, encourages and supports economic and industrial development focusing on the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
