Bruno Carré: SCGC committed to environment protection as an integral part of our business strategy.

Cairo, February 7th , 2012. Head of Environmental Affairs, Eng. Hossam Hegazy, accompanied by a number of senior officials from his ministry visited on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012, Tourah Portland Cement Company (TPCC), a subsidiary of Suez Cement group of Companies (SCGC) to mark the completion of the project to replace the electrostatic filters in line 8 with bag house filters. The project is funded partially with a loan from the Egyptian Pollution abatement Project (EPAP II) of EEAA.

Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by SCGC Managing Director, Bruno Carré, Chief Operating Officer Giovanni Ferrario, Regional Director Fabrizio Donega, TPCC Plant Manager Sanad Morad, Technical Director Fabio Burchielli and SCGC’s Environmental Affairs Manager Mohamed Ayman. Following a detailed presentation, the delegation made a field tour in the plant where they inaugurated the project.

“This project is the cornerstone of our action plan to demonstrate that cement plants, if properly run and equipped with the latest available technologies, can be sustainable in harmony in urban communities just like our plants in Europe and in Asia,” said Mr. Carré adding that SCGC’s commitment towards environmental projects is an integral part of the group’s business strategy.

Since 2006, SCGC has invested a significant percentage of its industrial investments -more than 500 million pounds- towards implementing a comprehensive environmental policy.  All SCGC plants are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified and are in full cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, hence their full compliance with target environmental standards. All plants are subject to comprehensive audit by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) so as to ensure full compliance to local standards.
