SCGC Adds 20 Don Bosco Grads to its Ranks and Signs a new Partnership Agreement

Don Bosco Graduates Remain in High Demand for Their Technical Training and Professionalism

Cairo, December 15, 2015. Suez Cement Group of Companies (SCGC) celebrated a major milestone with its longtime education partner, the Don Bosco Institute, today with the announcement that it has hired 20 graduates from the school's engineering program and signed a new partnership agreement with the Don Bosco.

SCGC planned a special event to mark the occasion with several key guests from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Manpower and other governmental officials.

“SCGC values its partnership with the Don Bosco Institute, a technical school dedicated to helping young people acquire training and skills to boost their employment potential and leadership skills. Don Bosco graduates are hardworking, passionate and willing to learn, whether in the classroom or on the job, making them an invaluable addition to any company. This is why SCGC has hired over 80 students to date and provided on-site training to more than 170 others” said Bruno Carre’ at the press conference.

SCGC began working closely with the Don Bosco Institute in 2006 in hopes of supporting youth employment and reversing a skills mismatch in the local labor market.

Over the last eight years, SCGC has donated more than €400,000 to improve school infrastructure, design new courses, purchase equipment and cover tuition for needy students. In addition, SCGC funds the salaries of some of the school’s highly qualified trainers and teaching staff. It has also allowed Don Bosco to open to the University UNINETTUNO, a polytechnic post-secondary institution where students can build on their foundations in various trades.

This year's donation will cover school fees for impoverished students as well as infrastructure upgrades. SCGC is proud of Don Bosco Institute graduates, not just because they are making a difference in their communities, but because they have gone on to do great things at some of Egypt’s best known companies, including SCGC.

Thanks in part to SCGC's financial contributions, Don Bosco graduates are in demand throughout the industrial sector. Graduates come out ready to perform at the highest levels in their fields as operators, assistant engineers and technicians specializing in mechanics or electric systems.

The institute achieves this by providing Egyptian youth with a safe space to develop social skills as well as job training. The Don Bosco Institute welcomes more than 4,000 youth and young adults of all ages and religions Every year.

SCGC is a leader within the cement industry in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The firm has made significant contributions to numerous health, education and environmental programs over the years, with many of its initiatives linked to Egypt's National Literacy and Educational Development Program.
