Suez Cement and Takatof Association sign new partnership agreement to renovate and upgrade Omar Ibn Khattab School

Cairo, 16 of July 2014. Mr. Bruno Carré, Suez Cement CEO, and Dr. Magued Osman, Vice Chairman of Takatof Association for Development, signed a new partnership agreement on July, 16th to renovate and upgrade Omar Ibn El Khattab Preparatory School for boys in Kafr Selim, Suez Governorate.

The development project, with a total value of 2 million pounds, seeks to provide the students and the teachers with a modern and learning environment, conducive to academic success. The funds will be used to finance renovation and upgrade work to be completed in the first semester of 2015.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Bruno Carre’, Suez Cement’s CEO, said: “Suez Cement has always placed a high value on education to ensure that young people develop the skills and competences needed by the labor market and to achieve their targets for growth and jobs. Against a backdrop of economic crisis, initiatives in support of education and the development of skills are essential to ensure the professional success of future generations. This project is a perfect example of what Suez Cement is actually doing for young people”.

Dr. Magued Osman, Takatof  Vice Chairman explained that: “Takatof Association for Development prides itself that so far it has upgraded 19 schools with a very special philosophy that takes into consideration the child psychology and how the school’s environment impacts it. It focuses on comprehensive development, not only in terms of infrastructure but also on building the human capabilities. In that respect, not only does it upgrade the school in an attractive way, using cheerful colors, taking into consideration the lighting and greenery, but all upgrades are based on needs’ assessment and studies including focus group discussions (FGD) to make sure that the upgrade is in accordance with the real needs of the students and the teachers.”

Suez Cement is actively involved in supporting development projects to improve the quality of life and social wellbeing well-being of community members where the Company operates in line with the United Nations Millennium Goals. Education plays a crucial role in poverty eradication and wealth creation, and that is why Suez Cement has invested more than LE 30 million to promote social initiatives related to education and healthcare in partnership with organizations, including 57375 Children’s Cancer Hospital, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the UN World Food Program and INJAZ as well as Helwan University, Suez University and the American University in Cairo. 

Among its most successful initiatives is the partnership with the Don Bosco Technical Institute, which started in 2006. Since then, Suez Cement hired more than 20 graduates from the program and provided on the-job training for another 170 participants.
