Let’s Build the Future of Our Youth by Supporting Education Programs

El Minya, 26 August 2007. Investing in education is at the heart of Suez Cement’s social responsibility strategy. Education is crucial to the development of human capacities and can play a central role in the elimination of poverty. In line with this strategy, in 2007, Helwan Cement‘s El Minya plant collaborated with the governor of El Minya and the Ministry of Education to upgrade seven preparatory and primary schools in need of renovation. The schools are located 35 kilometers outside of Cairo and close to the El Minya plant. The donation has been used to cover the costs of upgrading infrastructure, equipping the classrooms, purchasing computers and books for the library and creating green corners for the children.

The El Minya plant also signed a partnership agreement with the El Minya University Faculty of Engineering to improve the quality of education by sponsoring a computer laboratory and a language laboratory, implementing a summer training program in its plant for 40 students, and supporting multicultural exchanges activities. Additionally, in cooperation with the University of Milan “Politecnico” and the Group Technical Center (CTG) of Italcementi Group, the company held three workshops on the properties and applications of white cement. The workshops were mainly for students in the civil engineering department.

Lastly, a scholarship for 20,000 Euro has been offered by the El Minya plant for the most successful engineer from El Minya University. The recipient of the scholarship will get to participate in the 2007-2008 Master F.lli Pesenti on Civil Engineering organized at the University of Milan “Politecnico.”
