SCGC contributes to the Supply of Clean Filtered Drinking Water to Bani Khaled Village

The contribution marks the celebration of World Water Day and reflects the Group’s continued commitment  to local community

Cairo, 29th March 2010. Suez Cement group of Companies (SCGC), the leading cement producer in Egypt, announced its contribution in providing clean drinking water to Bani Khaled village part of Minya, with the installation of 1000 water filters to all families of the village.  The announcement was made during a conference organized by National Council of Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) to celebrate the World Water Day, in Bani Khaled Village.  The conference  was attended by H.E Dr Moushira Khatab, Minister of Family and Population, H.E Dr. Ahmed Diaa Al Dein, Governor of Minya, and more than 5000 delegates representing top organizations, government leaders, non-profits and local residents.

The project comes within the framework of the strategic partnership signed between the Suez Cement Group and NCCM, which enters now it’s third consecutive year of fruitful cooperation, with a total investment of LE 7 million for the three years.  “Our partnership with NCCM comes to mirror our values!  At Suez Cement, we believe that shouldering social responsibility is a decisive part of our business plan.   We are passionately working to increase economic opportunities and improve people’s quality of life, through different initiatives”, commented Roberto Callieri, Managing Director of Suez Cement Group.

As it approaches its third year of continues success and commitment to improving quality of  lives of children of Helwan, Tourah and Minya, the Suez Cement project this year is focused on preventing drop-out from schools, developing skills of disabled children as well as raising public awareness about social health and environmental issues.

Earlier this year, the Group, in collaboration with NCCM, organized a two-day medical caravan in El Minya Governorate, to fulfill the health needs of people of Bani Khaled.   The caravan offered a massive medical checkup carried out by senior doctors in different specializations including Ophthalmology, Internal Diseases, pediatrics, and Orthopedic.  Over 700 patients were examined while cases requiring further analysis and radiological scan were referred to external laboratories and scan centers.

Suez Cement is a key player in the cement production in Egypt with industrial network of five plants in Helwan, Suez and El-Minya and annual production capacity of around 12 million meteoric tons of cement. As a committed and responsible business, SCGC has spent more than LE 4.4 million on community support initiatives in 2009.
