Tourah Cement and singer Shaaban Abdel Rahim celebrated the World Day for Safety and Health at work

Cairo, 12 May 2008. Tourah Portland Cement Company celebrated the World Day for Safety and Health at work and the World Labor Day.  The employees of the Company were invited to bring their family to mark this significant event which aimed to stress the importance of the continuous promotion of a preventive safety and health culture at work. 

The ceremony also included a concert performed by the popular singer Shaaban Abdel Rahim who this year has endorsed the awareness-raising campaign on occupational safety and health entitled “Salamtak Bel Donia” (Your Safety is Your Life) promoted by Suez Cement group of Companies in cooperation with the International Labour Organization and the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration.

“The observance of the event had two main objectives. Firstly to promote, enhance, and instill not only to the workers but also to their families awareness and appreciation of the importance of occupational health and safety which is the core business strategy of our company. Secondly, as a social responsible company we have always striven for and encouraged the social dialogue between the top management and the workers. We are glad that this event has been welcomed by the workers, the trade unions and their families and we are strongly convinced that  the combination of the implementation of our safety project “Zero Accidents” and an awareness-raising campaign will enable us to cement a safety culture among all our employees ” stated Mr. Roberto Callieri, Managing Director of the Company.

In fact, Tourah Portland Cement Company, a subsidiary of Suez Cement Company, has launched in January 2006 the project on occupational safety and health named "Zero Accidents" that integrates safety as a core business strategy for the Company. Thanks to the implementation of this project two years later the frequency rate of the accidents has decreased approximately by 75%.
