Heidelberg Materials met with Egypt’s Minister of Economic Development and Planning

Heidelberg Materials, the Chairman of the Management Board, Dr. Dominik Von Achten, met with Her Excellency Dr. Hala Elsaid, Minister of Economic Development and Planning of Egypt, on the margins of COP27 taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh. Dr. Von Achten was accompanied by Ambassador Yasser Elnaggar, Chairman of Suez Cement Group, and Mr. Mohamed Hegazy, CEO of Suez Cement Group.  Dr. Von Achten underscored the continued commitment of Heidelberg to its operations in Egypt, which is reflected in the increased investments by the Group in projects of waste Heat Recovery Systems and solar energy of $25 million and £350 million, respectively, with the objective of cutting down the CO2 emissions in the manufacturing processes. He further outlined the decarbonization targets of Heidelberg Materials around the globe and in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean Basin, where it has operations in 14 countries. He told the minister about Heidelberg Materials’ flagship CCUS projects going on in the US and Norway, where Heidelberg is leading the cement industry in these kinds of projects.
