Suez Cement partners up with the Misr El Kheir Foundation to revamp Helwan Public Hospital

Suez Cement subsidiaries Helwan and Tourah Cement Companies sponsor major upgrades at a local hospital as part of its corporate social responsibility program

Cairo, December 4, 2013. Helwan and Tourah Cement Companies, subsidiaries of Suez Cement Group of Companies, are partnering with the Misr El Kheir Foundation to revitalize the Helwan Public Hospital. Today they signed a cooperation protocol agreement outlining the project at a special event held at Tourah Cement plant that boasted numerous honored guests, including the Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Mona Al Rabaat, Dr. Ali Gomaa, Misr El Kheir’s Chairman, Cairo Governor, Dr. Galal Mostafa, and Suez Cement CEO, Mr. Bruno Carré.

The 3 million LE upgrade will tackle Helwan Public Hospital's crumbling infrastructure as well as address the need for better medical equipment and maintenance over the next year. The project will also look at hospital employee morale, due partially to the facility's chronic problem of being understaffed.

At the event, Mr. Carré reiterated Suez Cement's ongoing dedication to community projects in the healthcare sector as part of the company's corporate social responsibility program. Suez Cement has a long history with healthcare and wellness projects, including its strong relationship with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, which began in 2006.

“Education and health play a crucial role in every community in terms of poverty eradication and wealth creation. This is why we have invested more than LE 30 million to promote social initiatives in these fields, including donations to 57375 Children’s Cancer Hospital, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the UN World Food Program and INJAZ” said Carré. “I am confident that our partnership with the Misr El Kheir Foundation will radically improve the hospital itself as well as the quality of hospital services for patients”.

He concluded saying Suez Cement will continue to seek out partnerships between the government, the private sector and civil society organizations, since they are the most effective way of solving challenges and improving the lives of impoverished Egyptians.

Misr El Kheir Foundation's Senior Project Coordinator, Ms. Mona Hamdallah, echoed his statements, adding: “The protocol aims to revamp the Helwan Public Hospital to provide better medical services and benefit community members at large”.
